ChampagneBack in 2006, the original members of Sustainable Hockerton quickly came to the conclusion that every action to improve the sustainability of the village needed cash.

They settled on a wind turbine as an investment that offered returns for investors, income for the village and carbon savings.

Project managed by Hockerton Housing Project, it took 2.5 years to develop the idea with the village, negotiate a location and related planning permissions, source a (second-hand) wind turbine, and install it on a (thankfully wind-less) day in late October 2009.
