New energy mentoring service

We’re delighted our project managers at Hockerton Housing Project are joining a new mentoring service for Community Energy projects as a Peer Mentor, thanks to a new project funded by the Esmee Fairburn Foundation.

Like the other Peer Mentors across the country, they have a range of experience to share, in terms of scale and technologies, in renewable energy generation. And they are experienced in mentoring a range of projects, having run a similar service through the Energy Saving Trust, as well as their current advisory services.

Energy mentors

Eligible community energy groups accepted onto the programme can access up to 6 days of support from the Peer Mentors.  It is perceived that mentoring activities will be undertaken using a range of interventions to include face to face meetings (one to one or group), telephone discussions and email exchanges.

Full details will be provided when you apply for support, and you will be matched with the mentor who meets your needs in terms of project type and location – though there’s no harm in requesting us is there?!

  1. River Severn has two Weirs in Worcester. We could put one or two 500Kw Archimedian screw turbines in each. It’s not going to dent Worcester’s energy need but it’s good to start to changing the ‘there’s nothing people like us can do’ mindset. This project would become more attractive with ‘time of day’ pricing but It could probably wash its face now.
To achieve something more significant is there some way Worcester citizens could put some of their savings into a bunch of windmills in a windy offshore place?

Would love to help. The best way to set this up is to go via the Energy Mentoring web site.

If you locate the “Find out more tab” you will see a choice for mentee. Fill in the short form and Petra Morris at Coops UK will sort the rest.

This will mean I can help you and I will get paid via Coops UK. Hope That makes sense. Let me know if you have any difficulties at all and I will see if I can sort them out! Have only just signed up to the mentoring program so still learning the process myself.

  2. Having been inspired by a day’s course at Hockerton and subsequently by telephone advice from yourselves I wonder if our group would be accepted into the progeamme? We believe that we are the first community based solar project in Lincolnshire.

Our 50 kW solar community project finally commissioned on 11 October 2014 but as we are not part of any organisation we are unsure whether there are issues that we still need to address! For instance recently spoke with your staff regarding the pitfalls of installing an export meter – what a difficult process that all was! So we would welcome your kind selves as a mentor if this is possible.

    Regards

    Peter

  3. I have been attending community energy meetings for a while, and have made a start on interesting my Council (Hertsmere) and my community. To this end I will be addressing the Bushey Forum (our unofficial”parish council”) in Feb and will judge local interest.
If this is positive, would it be possible to have a speaker who knows far more about it than I do, for the following Bushey Forum meeting, probably April or May?

My phone number is 020 8387 3163, email as above.

    Many thanks

    1. We get asked to speak a lot and it is always a pleasure. It might be best to go via the Energy Mentoring web site run by Coops UK. I will call you direct as well.
