On 17th April 2026, Sustainable Hockerton hosted Power Station, a film, which shows a community coming together from Walthamstow, London , to adopt mass solar usage on their street and in a neighbourhood school. The film shows the trials and tribulations faced by the residents and the volunteers who took part in this exercise, but is extremely inspiring as it is based on a true event.
We at Sustainable Hockerton worked in partnership with People Owned Power a community owned energy company, which helps to facilitate solar adoption by supporting local champions. We are proud of our record in supporting local businesses to take advantage of cheaper bills through solar panels, supported by Sustainable Hockerton. This has enabled businesses to weather storms faced by fluctuating and volatile energy prices in recent years. The smallest installation was 15kW and the largest is 50kW power rating. In addition, local residents have been inspired to adopt solar usage. We have promoted talks on solar renewable energy in our 2025 AGM to help demystify the sector.
The film viewing and discussion was held in Southwell Library, which kindly donated the space and the staff to hold this event. It was hoped that a wider audience would be able to attend the screening, by contacting through word-of-mouth, leaflets and emails. The population of Nottingham, Southwell neighbouring villages was contacted and around 35 people attended the event. Given the success and reception, we hope to host this film and such other events in the future again. If you are interested in hosting please contact us or People Owned Power directly.
This is part of our wider initiative of introducing Energy Local.
